They referred me to the instruction manual, and sure enough, it says to clean the strap after every use… and after every 5 uses, use dish soap. Granted, I haven't thought to plot my Heart Rate results with my Chest Hair levels to come up with a solid theory. The rubber model that comes with the heart rate monitors does not have any comfort issues over this one. See example here.
Is the heart rate sensor and the elastic strap clean? Wondering if either would interfere with the other. I considered adding "one more thing" to my list of items I need on a ride/training to be a last resort.

Always dry the transmitter with a towel. Do not blow dry it, for instance. I attempted to force the battery cover to turn and stripped the threads that should allow the battery cover to turn like a screw. T31, T31C, T61 transmitters can be washed with mild soap and a gentle brush.
