Another thing to check is to see if it's even showing up in the "Computer" folder of the finder. The drive has been of course replaced by my Apple dealer then, but the replacement drive is currently beginning to fail again. Good luck! Use a can of compressed air to blow out the slot in the optical drive. There's also a small trick to removing the airport card mount without breaking the little grounding tab that connects to the optical drive.
