That was fixed by turning the machine off then at restart immediately pressed the command and R keys simultaneously. We have taken to putting the old battery back in and presto, the MagSafe works. I figured what could it hurt to give the heat thing a try so I took out the blow dryer and heated the adapter for a few minutes and bingo I Macbook Air Battery Not Charging cant believe that this turned out to be the problem.

To clean the MagSafe connector and pin area, disconnect the adapter from the wall outlet and from the computer.Remove debris gently with a cotton swab or a soft bristle toothbrush.
