Nothing has worked. a faily long time. Haven't noticed similar posts in other forums.

  1. neither have i found a simple way of reinstalling spotlight (since i wouldn't want to reinstall os x upt to 10.4.11 all over again).
  2. the search will not look within folders on the drive.Will try calling Apple support today to determine next steps.
