I think they refer to this as OOF but I do not get where the letters came from. So internally it works ok, but external incoming emails do not receive the automatic OOO reply. Have you also checked "Allow Automatic Replies"? I apologize for the lack of information, this is being used through Outlook not OWA and it was happening to all users. On the Tools menu, point to Message Rules, and then click Mail. then select out of office - click ok. Check This Out If you need to be a 100% certain that they get informed about your (extended) absence, contact them before you leave.

When it comes to setting the Out of Office Assistant (OOF) there are 3 things to note; By default, it doesn’t reply to people outside of your organization. Restarting Outlook deletes this list, resetting the rule to start again for each sender. Note By default, "*" is the SMTP domain.

The only way I know to resolve that is to reset the rules engine: outlook.exe /cleanrules It will flush out all rules in the mailbox though, so others would need to To have it send the OOF message to all addresses again, you must turn off the OOF and then turn it back on.
