I noticed that when I was having the problem I could apply pressure to the portion of the top-case just between the trackpad and the keyboard and this would get the Laptops get a lot more abuse than a desktop machine since they're moved around. I could see that the slim ribbon in this hole was slightly curled and first straightened it with a plier and then added the small folded paper on top of the I use my pro without the battery connected so I could use your trick instantly just by pressing the ribbon… WHAT!!! Am having the same problem with random backslashes being inserted into text. Once I am satisfied that I have done this, I do not mind trying the 10.5 install - and if it works...GREAT, if not, I'll send it off. Reading this warranty stuff at apple.com showed me that replacement parts have only 90 days warranty.
